Rinchen Dolkar

I was born in Tibet – a land of sacred nature, with beautiful clear rivers and colorful, fragrant flowers. I worked full-time as a sheep herder, wandering fields with sheep, horses, and yaks.

 Then I realized the importance of education, so in 1995 I went to India and completed my studies in advanced English. I then returned to Tibet and worked in tourism – as an English translator.

 My dream was to come to America, which I did in 2002. I lived in NYC for seven years, working in Japanese restaurants, then got married and gave birth to my daughter.

 I moved to Kingston in 2009, where I realized I had all the things I thought would make me happy when I was younger – a successful business, beautiful family, nice house and car. But then I realized that this isn’t all you need to be happy. As you age your body changes, you have mood swings, you start having new aches and pains. You feel your body deteriorating. I started questioning what I could do for myself to help stabilize my body and balance my life.

 And I found yoga. As B.K.S. Iyengar said yoga helps us “by remaining in the company of great souls and through their guidance, sets our foot firmly on the right path to overcome weakness.”

 I truly experience that when I practice, so I recently completed my 200-Hr Teacher Training at The Yoga House. Through this journey, I witnessed the change in my body, in mind, and felt my existence in a different way.

Be natural, be simple.

Now is always the right time to make your way to your mat to practice yoga.

Listen to your heart and body, and let them guide you through your journey

without forcing anything.

Be present.

 

I can’t wait to share with you what I’ve learned. I feel yoga from the bottom of my heart, and have found the study of yoga to be my true purpose.
