Olga Choedron
Olga Choedron grew up in an ancient Russian city, Nizhny Novgorod (c.1221). There she got her Bachelors of Science in teaching languages, then moved to Saint Petersburg and worked as a teacher of Russian as a second language and translator until she moved to the Hudson Valley in 2013.
She has been studying and practicing yoga and meditation with Tibetan and western Buddhist masters since the late 1990s. She went to study Buddhist and Ayurvedic practices of awakening and purifying the mind and body in India and Nepal (2009, 2018).
Olga is certified as an alignment-based Vinyasa yoga instructor with Hudson River Yoga and Vitality Yoga Flow (2017 and 2019). She draws inspiration from different masters and styles of yoga such as hatha, vinyasa, restorative, Kundalini, yoga conditioning as well as from Buddhist mindfulness and meditative practices. In her classes she works on the different layers of our being: physical, energetic, psychological, spiritual.
Olga’s approach to teaching yoga is to instill awareness of the connection between our body, mind, spirit and breath; and how this can be integrated into our daily activities to lead a healthy and balanced life. Through well-rounded routines of asana sequences and breathing exercises, she guides students to not only stretch and strengthen our physical body, but expand our awareness and find more emotional balance, mental clarity, deeper sense of purpose and belonging, inner peace and joy.
Currently, Olga works as an ENL teacher at an elementary school. She loves gardening, hiking and biking, spending time with family and friends and traveling to new places.
