Held at the Midtown location, 474 Broadway Ave., Kingston

 

Come explore the depths of Yin Yoga and the philosophy behind teaching this practice with Bobbie Marchand of Prema Yoga in Brooklyn, NY. This course will meet the guidelines for a 30-hour Yin Certification for Continuing Education with the Yoga Alliance. The Yin training is open to both teachers who want to add this to their set of teaching skills and to those students who want to deepen their knowledge of the Yin practice.

In this training student will explore:

  • a deeper place of connection and understanding of your own practice (that’s where your teaching voice comes from)
  • Yin Yoga history & philosophy
  • Connective Tissue: the star of the show in this method and how is relates to the physical, mental/emotional and subtle bodies
  • how to set the ‘mood’ of the practice; evoking and maintaining the space of quiet, thoughtful attention
  • Support: the appropriate use of props, touch and language
For those interested in teaching, a separate, final teaching examination will be scheduled.
Outside practice and study time is strongly encouraged.

The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga: The Philosophy and Practice of Yin Yoga, Bernie Clark. 2012.

Tuition:

Tuition is $300 or $275 for graduates of The Yoga House’s 200-hour Yoga teacher Training programs. A non-refundable $75 deposit is due by May 5th, 2017, to secure a place in the intensive. The remaining balance is due the first night of the weekend (May 19, 2017). Payment plans available for additional fee. Tuition does not include the required text.

bobbie marchandBobbie Marchand, in pursuing her love of dance, moved from her native Toronto to NY in 2005. Though the transition of dancer to yoga teacher is a common one, it was an illness that tuned her in to the power of a daily, dedicated practice. Bobbie’s Vinyasa classes are creative, challenging and fun. Drawing on her dance background, the sequencing is expressive and fluid while encouraging alignment (and a healthy use of props!). Her yin/stretch/restorative classes are an invitation to pause, yield to the sense of support, turn inward and take the practice to a quiet, nourishing place away from the external stress of our busy lives. The principles of the traditional practice of Ashtanga Yoga can bring a deeper sense of awareness and connection to your practice no matter what style of of yoga you practice. Join E-RYT and The Yoga House co-owner Jacqui Nash to learn about the systems of energies, breath and focus established in the Ashtanga lineage which help create a stronger practice, both physically and spiritually. We’ll dive into the incorporation of these elements to bring you into a fuller awareness of the self while practicing any style of yoga. We’ll also go over some sticking points in the Ashtanga practice in order to feel comfortable with where your body is in the asanas and to find your full potential every time you practice, whether it be Ashtanga or Vinyasa Yoga. All practitioners, new and experienced, welcome.

unnamedA quietly passive, though deeply challenging practice, yin yoga is designed to elongate the connective tissues of the body (ligaments, tendon and fascia) resulting in a greater sense of space within. For a therapeutic effect, poses are sustained for along period of time; practitioners are encouraged into the depth of the pose by the guidance and patient listening to their own breath.

 

This workshop will offer information about a full yin yoga practice; the principles behind Yin and Yang; the desired effect of a yin practice on our begin as a whole; connective tissue and it’s relevance to the practice of yin; how and when to incorporate yin principles into a traditional practice; and pranayama for a yin practice.

Past Life Regression is a doorway into the many journeys and incarnations our souls have taken. Sometimes it provides us an opportunity to get it right this time around. It helps to clarify our purpose for each lifetime and lessons learned.
Laurie Oliver is a psychic-medium, as well as a hypnotist specializing in Past Life Regressions. She uses her intuition as well as guidance from “The Other Side,” in a gentle, caring way to answer questions and offer support and healing from whatever life challenges present. Laurie also happens to be our genuinely beloved landlord here at The Yoga House.

Great for climbers, yogis, surfers, runners and athletes of all forms, the YogaSlackers bring their unique practice of slackasana to climbing gyms and yoga studios around the world. This practice helps students to develop new techniques of complete body awareness and strength while improving concentration, so much so that some have labeled it “meditation for those who can’t sit still”. In this 2 hour workshop, students will learn the basics of the series including poses such as kneeling, sitting, standing, lying down, arm balancing and even going upside down on the slackline. Often times the practice is combined with AcroYoga and Thai Massage to offer a full exploration into balance and holistic well-being.

PR_headshot2Adi has been a life long student of practicing yoga off the mat in all shapes and forms especially when it involves being outdoors. Her passion for movement and the environment have taken her on countless adventures around the world and she currently travels and teaches as part of the YogaSlackers & created the Redefining Balance series and retreats to share the modalities of shifting perspective through yoga, slacklining, AcroYoga, climbing, surfing, mountain biking and just about anything else you can think to do on the Earth’s terrain. Traveling & teaching often times with her car as a home base, you can find her somewhere in the vicinity of an ocean, climb site, mountain or legit climbing tree as she works with students on and off the mat to discover a new sense of balance, strength and focus in whatever their form of practice might be.
