Vinyasa Foundations Intensive Module, Jan. 10-12, 2020

Foundations: The Roots of Vinyasa

January 10-12, 2019

Teacher: Jacquelyn Nash

The Vinyasa yoga style that we practice today comes from a history that is rich and layered. Learn the connection and progression from the ancient philosophy to the modern day experience of yoga in the West as we examine different lineages and styles, including Iyengar yoga, breath-based yoga (or Viniyoga), Classical Hatha Yoga and others, and discover how those style can influence your practice and teaching. We’ll spend a day diving deep into the Ashtanga Vinyasa lineage, which is at the heart of Vinyasa yoga, and discuss how to incorporate the foundations of Ashtanga yoga, most importantly breath, drishti and asanas, into your practice and your teaching.

Learn:
  • the spiritual, philosophical, & physical history of yoga.
  • different lineages and methods of asana to inspire your practice and teaching.
  • the Ashtanga Yoga primary series and the keystones of the Ashtanga lineage.

Required Books: Ashtanga Yoga: the Practice Manual by David Swenson

Jacquelyn Nash

As co-founder of The Yoga House, Jacquelyn is committed to demystifying the secret language of yoga and making it accessible to all people. After her first introduction with the Ashtanga Yoga Practice, Jacquelyn immediately found value in the authenticity, history and integrity of the practice. The practice inspired Jacquelyn to become a forever student of yoga, studying the Ashtanga Primary Series with David Swenson and Shelley Washington and learning the rich history and foundations of different yoga lineages and styles in her advanced training. Influenced by the light-heartedness but also sincerity of David and Shelley’s teachings, Jacquelyn has a nurturing and compassionate approach to sharing the richness of yoga that brings a sense of accessibility to those practicing and learning with her.

  • structuring a yoga class by building postural arcs and valleys
  • developing a teacher/class relationship and teacher/student relationship
  • how to hold space, creating a safe, judgment free environment for healing and transformation
  • methods and tools to find personal inspiration and then share that with the class
Leigha Butler & Jacquelyn Nash

Having met in their 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training, Leigha and Jacquelyn decided to plant their yoga roots in Kingston in 2011 when they opened The Yoga House in Uptown Kingston. While their styles of practice and teaching differ, their polarities bring a very balanced approach to sharing yoga with those training with them. Both have studied with various teachers, Leigha most recently with Shiva Rea and Jacquelyn with David Swenson, bringing combined knowledge from different approaches to the practice. While they joke about not reading anything but yoga books, they are continually filling their wells with new inspiration for their committed personal practices and the classes that they teach.

Hours:

Friday: 7:00(or 7:30)-9:30pm Midtown Studio
Saturday: 11:30-5pm Midtown Studio
Sunday: 11:45-4:45pm Midtown Studio

Fine tune your ability to listen when your body is speaking.

An added benefit to a regular yoga practice is having a better sense of body awareness. Enhance your relationship with YOU by acquiring basic anatomy information and by learning how it applies to your yoga practice. Untangle some anatomy lingo and take a closer look at a few key components of the body, like: shoulders, spine, and hips, which are all key hubs for our yoga asana, or postural practice. Finally experience what we’ve learned through movement. Feel free to come with some questions.

Please email us to RSVP as a member.
