Workshop – Arm Balances: The Ins and Outs w/ Felipa Gaudet – Free for Members – March 21st, 1-3pm

Playing with arm balances is a lot of fun in a regular yoga class, but tackling them in class doesn’t afford us the time wrap our heads around the whole process. Join Flying Flow instructor Felipa Gaudet as she dives into the structure of balancing your body on your hands in a number of different postures. She’ll offer different approaches for coming into various arm balances, including ways to use props and self-assists. She’ll also share some fun transitions out of them, including some eye-opening, playful transitions from one arm balance to another. The end goal is to have fun, learn about postures, and maybe even fall and laugh a little while building a new relationship to balancing on your hands.

Felipa Gaudet

Felipa began practicing with The Yoga House community after the birth of her youngest daughter, seeking a way to strengthen and reconnect with her physical self while carving out a place from her busy day to cultivate inner peace. Her desire to land the still-elusive ‘handstand in the middle of the room’ has fueled her dedicated, ongoing practice while teaching her to detach from desired results.

Felipa teaches in an invigorating and fluid Vinyasa style, while encouraging folks to honor their bodies and discover the possibilities within each pose in the way that feels right for them. A Montessori teacher in her other life, Felipa believes yoga can be accessible to all and she offers multiple levels of challenge within various options for poses. In her classes, she enjoys exploring the relationships between poses while steadily building to a fun challenge.

The chakras are energy centers responsible for housing, processing and generating various kinds of archetypal energy. In this workshop you will learn the chakra system as a holistic template by which you can assess and address whatever has been arising for you in terms of physical, emotional and mental experiences.

We’ll do a yoga practice which will help you embody the teachings and learn how to ask for insight directly from your chakras. You’ll leave with a sweet, practical toolkit for continuing the work of understanding your chakras, healing them, receiving revelations from them, and accessing their ample gifts–these gifts which are truly YOUR gifts, in the most literal and original sense!

You’ll want to bring a notebook and pen/pencil + yoga stuff.

Leigha Butler & Jacquelyn Nash

Having met in their 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training, Leigha and Jacquelyn decided to plant their yoga roots in Kingston in 2011 when they opened The Yoga House in Uptown Kingston. While their styles of practice and teaching differ, their polarities bring a very balanced approach to sharing yoga with those training with them. Both have studied with various teachers, Leigha most recently with Shiva Rea and Jacquelyn with David Swenson, bringing combined knowledge from different approaches to the practice. While they joke about not reading anything but yoga books, they are continually filling their wells with new inspiration for their committed personal practices and the classes that they teach.

This workshop has been canceled. Please check back for future offerings.

This workshop is designed for Intermediate and Advanced practitioners who would like to learn how to bring more Core and Shoulder strength into their practice. By using a wide variety of methods we can gain more strength and flexibility around the knee joint, hip joint, and rotator cuff.
Stabilizing these areas not only builds strength but also reduces the risk of injury in all forms of movement.

Fine tune your ability to listen when your body is speaking.

An added benefit to a regular yoga practice is having a better sense of body awareness. Enhance your relationship with YOU by acquiring basic anatomy information and by learning how it applies to your yoga practice. Untangle some anatomy lingo and take a closer look at a few key components of the body, like: shoulders, spine, and hips, which are all key hubs for our yoga asana, or postural practice. Finally experience what we’ve learned through movement. Feel free to come with some questions.

Please email us to RSVP as a member.

Jacquelyn Nash is the co-owner of The Yoga House, where she co-teaches their teacher training program, including their intensive weekend on yoga anatomy and alignment. Her most recent advanced training placed an emphasis on yoga therapy approaches to healing anatomical misalignment and alleviating the associated discomfort. As a lover of a good anatomy geek-out session, her yoga classes are known for detailed alignment cues to help practitioners find the best expression of the pose for her/his body.
