Inversion Playtime:

Techniques for Lifting Your Heart Above Your Head

Saturday, May 2nd

2:00-4:30pm

$25 to preregister (by Thursday, April 30th) or $30 to drop in

YOGA House in Kingston, NYTackle an inversion that has been just out of reach in this fun and playful workshop designed to give you the tools, safety guidelines, alignment strategies, and confidence you need to master or refine poses like headstand, forearm stand, and handstand. Specific, hands-on instruction will be offered for those who are newer to inversion play, and funky follow-up variations will be offered for inversion vets.

This workshop is designed to meet you where you’re at: If you’re new to inverting and wish to practice a shoulder-stand or headstand for the first time, that’s what you will work on! If you are already an inversion junkie and wish to gain even more control in your handstands or presses, then that’s what YOU’LL work on!

The workshop begins with a brief discussion about the why and how of inverting. Then I’ll have you feel the subtleties of safe (and effective!) anatomical tweaks during a guided, warming yoga practice. I’ll pepper in chances to get upside down during our flow. To explore the inversions, we’ll do some partner work, wall work, and finally independent work in order to hone our new skills. Looking forward to seeing you heart-side up!

Yoga Fundamentals: Decoding the Secret Language of Yoga — Saturday, April 18th – THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Yoga Fundamentals:

Decoding the Secret Language of Yoga

Saturday, April 18th, 2:00-4:00pm

with Jacqui Nash

$30 day-of/$25 pre-register

YOGA House in Kingston, NYWhen we hear the word “yoga,” we might think of flexibility, stress relief and mindfulness. But beyond that, some are not quite sure what to expect when making that decision to come to his/her first class. Or perhaps you’ve experienced yoga but still can’t follow along and understand the “secret language” coming from the instructor’s mouth. Because there are concepts, words, even movements that seem foreign, people can often feel intimidated and unsure of joining a group class. Many questions arise: What type of yoga should I try? What’s with all the breathing? If I’m not flexible, can I do yoga? Maybe you’ve already been to a class but felt too uncomfortable and unsure of yourself to return. Or maybe you’ve been, loved it, but still want to know more!

This 2-hour interactive workshop is designed to quell any hesitations and answer any and all questions that you might have about starting or continuing your yoga practice. We will cover the following topics:

  • A brief history of yoga
  • An introduction to pranayama (breath control) and meditation
  • An explanation of different styles
  • An introduction to common yoga terms
  • A look at some yoga postures and their anatomical alignment

The entire workshop is designed to encourage dialogue, questions and discussion for any and all topics. If you have a question, we are sure that many other people do, so ask away for us all, teachers and students, to learn about the hesitations that arise. We want to provide you with the foundation of basic yoga principles in order for you to feel more “in-the-know” when going to a yoga class. Join The Yoga House co-founder and instructor, Jacqui Nash, for this open forum for any yoga-skeptics.

We have all necessary equipment (props, mats, straps, even water), so bring just yourself. Because we will be doing some postures, please wear comfortable, loose clothing.

(Please note, it is NOT necessary to take this workshop to come to a Beginner’s Class, which we offer of Monday and Friday nights.)
