RESTorative Yoga Workshop

with Mel Toth

A perfect yoga break in the midst of the holiday season….

Saturday, Dec. 9th, 2:30-5:30pm

at our Midtown Studio

$35 to prereg/$40 day-of

During RESTorative yoga, periods of deliberate stillness create a safe space to explore letting go. Often the greatest challenge of this practice is allowing that stillness. Acknowledging that reality, RESTorative first uses gentle movement to help release excess energy and physical tension. Props such as blankets, bolsters and blocks are then used to create a cradle of support into which the body can let go. While in supported poses, engaging the mind with conscious breath work and guided relaxation encourages deep physical and emotional release. Through discussion and practice, we will explore what RESTorative is, why it’s beneficial and how to incorporate supported postures into your home or teaching practice. Workshop includes a 90-minute RESTorative class. No experience necessary, just a desire to find greater ease in the body/mind.

After many years of sporadic practice, Mel recommitted to yoga after moving to Saugerties in 2011 and discovering Shakti Yoga’s sanctuary classes. Two years later, she completed Shakti’s 200 hour teacher training and has been teaching yoga to students of all ages ever since. An educator since 1998, Mel has taught 4th grade, co-authored a strategy book for teachers and served as a tutor and Director of Education for several NY learning centers. Mel’s varied educational experiences have taught her to remain flexible in the face of teaching and learning challenges and receptive to new ways of sharing and receiving information.
mel toth, yoga, kingston, nyHer classes focus on understanding the fundamentals of asana (poses) through the use of props (blocks, blankets, straps, chairs, bolsters) and movement exploration, while emphasizing the discovery of personal alignment, balance and relaxation. After many years of chronic injuries and pain related to scoliosis (curvature of the spine), Mel has found great relief through the practice of gentle and restorative poses and is passionate about incorporating both into her classes. By encouraging students to respect their physical limitations while exploring what’s possible, Mel aims to help each individual learn how to serve the unique needs of the body. She is forever grateful to her first yoga teacher, Jill Gnassi, whose expert Iyengar instruction taught her how attending to small details could make a huge difference in life.

The Great Beyond: Past Life Regression

A Workshop with Laurie Oliver

Saturday, February 4th, 2-4pm

$20 to preregister

or $25 day of

Past Life Regression is a doorway into the many journeys and incarnations our souls have taken. Many people have epiphanies about various patterns that become apparent through the experience of having a regression. Often times we return with those souls we have strong connections to. Sometimes it provides us an opportunity to get it right this time around. It helps to clarify our purpose for each lifetime and lessons learned.
Laurie Oliver is a psychic-medium, as well as a hypnotist specializing in Past Life Regressions. She uses her intuition as well as guidance from “The Other Side,” in a gentle, caring way to answer questions and offer support and healing from whatever life challenges present. Laurie also happens to be our genuinely beloved landlord here at The Yoga House.

Join Anne Robinson of the Hudson Valley’s MaMA to understand the true relationship of breath and movement in your vinyasa practice. This workshop will begin with feeling the diaphram move with the breath and progress into  experimenting with movement through space, with the awareness on the breath.  We’ll  watch as the shape of the body changes, how that affects the breath, and note how the breath affects the shape change of the body.  We will experiment with and discuss how being in touch with the breath can move the whole being  into a deeper and more expansive place.

Hatha, the physical practice of yoga, is a vehicle towards self-awareness. As Iyengar says, ”Health begins with firmness in the body, deepens to emotional stability, then leads to intellectual clarity, wisdom and finally the unveiling of the soul … . We work with the body to perfect the soul.“ As we deepen and connect with ourselves through the practice of Hatha Yoga, we let go of physical, mental and emotional habits that are unnecessary. Yoga starts with the physical and ultimately takes the practitioner to a much deeper level of experience.

NET is a precise and effective tool for locating and releasing patterns of unresolved stress in the body. Many of my patients report that NET sessions have been beneficial in resolving physical conditions and in helping to identify and release causes of emotional stress.During this introductory workshop, we will look at how the body is naturally designed to deal with stress, what happens when the system gets overwhelmed and ways in which patterns of unresolved stress can be located and released. In addition to the presentation, a demonstration of NET will be offered to attendees and a self-care protocol will be given for use at home.
