all donations will go to help the families of over 215,00 students of the Houston Independent School District

Because we’d like to do our part and help our fellow citizens after the devastation in Houston, this Sunday’s community class, on September 10th, will be a benefit class with all donations going to help the Houston Independent School District (HISD). We’ve chosen the HISD because we know that many local teachers are part of our own The Yoga House community along with many parents who have school-aged children. We could only imagine the setbacks a disruption like this could cause on our local school community, not only to the students but also to the employees, from teachers to janitors, and to the family members of the students. The HISD is the largest schools district in Texas, comprised of 287 schools and about 215,000 students, of which over 75% are from economically disadvantaged families (read more about the diverse school district here). The money collected through The Yoga House will go directly to the families of the HISD recover from this catastrophic event.

As usual, the class will be taught be the wonderful Hillary Harvey at the Midtown studio with the addition of Leigha Butler and Jacquelyn Nash helping with assists and adjustments and maybe a quick live tune on the harmonium. We are asking for a suggested donation of $25, but will happily accept whatever you feel comfortable giving. We will also have collections bins at both studios throughout the week to which you contribute to the HISD. And if you can’t make it to the studio, you can donate below and we’ll add it to our HISD Harvey Relief fund.
